Planning your planting
Plants are selected according to suitability to the site and the client’s wishlist, such as year-round interest, medicinal plants, a white garden.
A planting plan is then drawn up to guide you through the purchasing and planting.
The process
Initial Meeting
Either onsite or potentially online; we will discuss your requirements and wish list for the area.
This visit allows me to gather information about the site; aspect, topography, soil etc and to take measurements.
Information gathered from the initial meeting will enable me to draw up a Design Brief and Site Analysis. These documents explore the project vision and site conditions respectively.
Vision Board
For larger design projects the vision or mood board represents a collection of visual ideas and themes before they are committed to the drawing board in the design. It enables you to flag up anything that you like or dislike in the design and ensures we are on the same page it often serves as a useful discussion tool moving forward.
For smaller projects, this can be simplified to an A4 collage of planting combinations reflecting the colour scheme, texture and foliage before I commit the design to paper.
Scale Plans
Detailed scale drawings illustrate planting combinations and quantities from a bird’s eye view. These can be copied and reduced to serve as working documents on-site when planting and will detail information such as plant quantities, cultivars, height and spread.
For larger projects, I sometimes produce a couple of designs in less detail for you to choose from before we commit to the scale plans at this stage.
Supporting documentation
Additional documents including the season of interest, maintenance, suppliers can be drawn up.
Fee
Planting plans start at £500
Planting Service
For an additional fee, I will happily supply and plant up the site according to the bespoke plan. This service is available to clients within Devon and Somerset.

Garden design project Helland, Cornwall
“Five years ago Rosie planned a new look for my garden. I had cleared two large areas of flower beds but had no idea where to start.
As an inexperienced gardener, I needed help to plan and develop the area. In order to design a garden that was right for me, Rosie spent a lot of time talking to me to find out want I wanted and what would suit my garden. Before staring her plans she made sure she had a good understanding of the style of what I liked, including my favourite flowers and colours, and the sort of time I would be able to spend looking after it.
She also took great care to investigate all aspects of growing conditions checking the type of soil we had, exposure and weather conditions.
The plans she drew up were meticulously done and very clear.
She was very patient with a rookie gardener and spent time explaining how to do things.
I thoroughly recommend Rosie to anyone needing their garden redesigned or requiring horticultural advice of any kind.”
